Meet Your Therapist
Hi! I’m Jayna, the therapist behind Promising Pathways
Welcome! I am so happy you are here. I’m Jayna (she/her), an avid coffee drinker, creative, hobby hopper and dessert enthusiast.
I am also a transnational, transracial adoptee therapist who specializes in working with adult adoptees, BIPOC and first or second generation immigrants. In addition, I often work with young adults, folks who have experienced various forms of trauma, feel caught between identities, cultures and roles, experience anxiety, depression, and those exploring relational patterns, identities and more.
As someone who grew up predominantly in White spaces, I know what it is like to navigate the intersections of identity and culture. Part of what brought me to this work was my own experience navigating therapy and the challenge of finding representation that reflected my experiences and identities. I know how meaningful it can be to work with a therapist who brings both professional knowledge and lived experience. Therapy with me is honest, relatable and combines evidence based treatment, communal knowledge, humor and challenge.

You have spent time wondering where you belong or that being yourself may mean disapointing the people you love
You have moments of feeling completely alone even though you are surrounded by your community
You are trying to find ways to hold pride in your identity & culture alongside the very real impacts of marginalization and oppression
You are grieving parts of yourself or history that have not been fully seen or understood
You feel like your emotions are taking over, feel numb or sometimes both in the same hour
You are high-achieving, over functioning and depleted
You feel like you have to keep it together for everyone around you- falling apart is not an option
-
How do I figure these things out?
How do I carry all of these overwhelming emotions?
How do I break patterns that no longer serve me?
-
I can support you in developing a greater ability to recognize, understand, and steady your emotions so that you feel less overwhelmed or controlled by emotional responses. The goal is not to suppress or avoid emotions, but to learn how to experience a full range of emotions while maintaining a greater sense of steadiness and choice in how you respond. We will discuss practical tools that can support nervous system regulation to navigate difficult emotions with greater awareness and confidence.
-
We can explore how family history, culture, identity, relationships, and the expectations around you may have influenced the patterns you’re experiencing. We honor the richness of your identity, not just the challenges.
-
When we notice and understand patterns, we can begin to make changes. We will address barriers to change and set realistic goals to support desired changes. This can lead to greater self-trust, flexibility, and agency to make choices that align with your needs and values. We can also consider how your identities, familial and cultural norms and the systems you are a part of can influence symptoms and patterns.
-
I can support you in integrating practical techniques that help you understand and better support your mind, behaviors, emotions, and body. The intention being to reduce distressing symptoms and develop effective tools to better understand, manage, and work through them.
Together, we can
work to…
“Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion”.
